‘Through their eyes’ is a multimedia project exploring the relationship between perception and realities of environments. Every year the UK’s coastlines recede by about 1.5 metres and so every day the coast changes ever so slightly without anyone noticing. The photographic side of this project consists of 30 polaroids, taken on the coastal path of Plymouth between Bovisand and Devils Point. They have all been deconstructed through the experimental technique of emulsion lifts so produce uniquely ‘ruined’ images of the path. The damaged, jagged edged polaroids bring awareness to the environmental issues of our coastlines by representing the slowly receding coastlines that are being washed away because of our negligence. The project also consists of an experimental soundscape to accompany the polaroids. The sound piece includes short diegetic sound clips of the environments where each polaroid was taken.
Coming soon… an accompanying short film of the journey and process.
